My favourite Sweets

Hi everyone, welcome to today’s blog if I manage to actually finish writing it this time. As I’m planning some major changes in my life (mostly concerning my writing career), I’m writing a somewhat easier blog so I don’t have to pull my mind too far from my current productivity, and so that I don’t have to unnecessarily stress myself out (more than I already am). So, in honour of that, today I will be talking about my favourite sweets.

In itself, it’s very rare that I treat myself to something, especially when it comes to food. But, when I do, I have a few favourites that I come back to pretty much every time. These include mostly chocolate treats, such as Magic Stars or chocolate bars in general like Rocky bars or Twix.

To give you a rundown of some of my favourite sweets (although I’m mostly excluding chocolate bars and chewy sweets):

Up the top we have, currently, Reece’s Peanut butter cups. I know these came over from America, and so are mostly known over there more than over here in the UK. Despite this, however, you can find Reece’s Peanut butter cups in most stores (especially Tesco’s express) and are one of the only sweets that I will go out and buy for myself. I’m not sure what it is I like about them, as I’m personally not that big of a fan of peanut butter on it’s own, but some days I cannot stop eating them. There’s something about the savoury aspect and the saltiness of the peanut butter compared to the sweetness of the chocolate that really pleases me. I think it’s because the two contrast so much. Another positive is that it is also, thankfully, some of the only chocolate C won’t eat. Therefore, I can enjoy my Reece’s cups without needing to offer them to him (Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind sharing with C. But sometimes it’s nice to be able to keep and eat my chocolate when I want to – basically, sometimes I think I’m allowed to be a little selfish).

Moving on, we get to some of my second favourite chocolate (as I’ve decided – for some reason – to focus more on chocolate in this blog): Magic Stars. Do I even need to say more? Magic Stars were the chocolate of my childhood, and you can get a full bag for pretty cheap from the shops. I think Magic Stars hold a type of nostalgia for me, hence the fact they are the chocolate of my childhood, as I remember eating them around my Nana’s a lot when I was younger. They’re just so good, and are my go to chocolate when I fancy something nice, small and ordinary.

Next we have Minstrels. Minstrels are good for the most part, and they’re nice plain chocolate like the wonderful Magic Stars. However, and I don’t know about you, but I can only ever eat about a handful of Minstrels at a time. When I say this, I mean probably a handful per week. This is because, with their harder outer shell, it feels like the top of my mouth is being ripped to shreds (which is probably a problem I made for myself because I’m sometimes an idiot and don’t chew things properly). But other than this, I have no complaints. Minstrels are pretty good.

Now we get a little more adventurous with a half and half (half chocolate, half sweet – even though it’s pretty much neither). We arrive at Fudge. When I say fudge, I’m not talking about Cadbury’s fudge fingers. No. I’m talking about your ordinary Clotted Cream fudge which you pick up from a tourist shop on your way back from your holiday in Dorset, etc. Homemade clotted cream fudge cannot be beaten. It is, quite possibly, one of the nicest treats you can buy yourself ever. I received some in a cute little tin for Christmas and it was gone within the week. I can’t really describe it to you, but I’m sure you all know the pure bliss that is eating a piece of Fudge. Fudge is beautiful.

Our next topic is jelly sweets. While we have some good contenders with Starburst and Skittles (Which I’ve drastically gone off of since my obsession with them in my first couple years at secondary school), the best Jelly sweets have to be your average fruit jellies you can buy in pretty much every Sainsbury’s, Tesco’s Lidil’s, etc. You know the ones. They’re shaped roughly like the fruits they are and are covered in a coating of sugar. They taste amazing. However, I do have the same problems with Fruit Jellies that I also have with Minstrels, in the sense that I can only eat a few at a time. I don’t know why, I think it might be because I prefer a much more savoury pallet (Hello Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups). Either way, despite my love for them, I must constantly face the burden of being unable to eat more than four or five at a time. (Can I cue the World’s smallest Violin, Mr Crabs?)

And there you have it, a rundown of my favourite chocolates and sweets. It’s not much this week, I know, but as I said my mind is currently somewhere else as I’m planning a lot at the moment. Thank you, to all of you who stuck around long enough to read this week’s blog, I really appreciate your support. Sick around for some (hopefully) exciting moments to come.
