My 2020 Goals

Today, due to the fact I didn’t have my laptop until this morning, I have written this blog by hand, (which felt super weird because I haven’t written anything by hand since my college exams), and am now typing it up considerably early in the morning. However, releasing this blog today is pretty perfect as it’s the 1st of January (Yay! – Oh, and happy new year!) and this blog is about my goals for this new year, 2020.

(I love this because my handwriting is going to get progressively incomprehensible, so let’s hope I can read and type the whole thing up).

In order to kickstart this blog off, I will start with something you most likely know: I am a nerd, and I used to read and write on a daily basis. It wasn’t an almost daily basis, it was absolutely every since day. However, now a days, I hardly read at all, and as for writing I only ever really write blogs (or in my journal, but that’s slightly different).

The truth is, I actually really miss being able to pick up a book or write the day away. I guess I miss the escapism it provided. Yes, for a while it was just a coping mechanism, but now I feel as though it’s a part of my life; It’s a part of who I am as a person, and I’m not sure if I’m ready to let that part of me go (even with the ‘new year, new me’ mentality which is stereotypical for most people going into a new year).

As a result, as I walk into 2020, I would love to get back into reading and especially back into writing, as I’d still quite like to make a career out of it.

Slightly related, but, moving on all the same, I feel the need to tell you all that currently I am under a lot of stress. And so, in this new year I would like to start sorting out my plans for the future – in particular where my finances are involved (but this is a blog about my goals and not my stresses, so I’m not planning on getting into this).

However, while we are on the topic of finances, one of my goals for 2020 is to pass my driving test and get a car (preferably a yellow car – and preferably a mini). This, I know, is going to cost at least a good few thousand pounds, which is sad but also a necessity (as I know I cannot rely on lifts mostly from my parents all my life).

I also think getting a car is going to seriously expand my bubble and my possibilities. It will also, I think, give me some of the independence I need to mature into a responsible(ish) adult.

A slightly longer-term goal for 2020, after I get a car, is to move out of home and into a small flat (more likely) or house (less likely) with my amazing boyfriend C. It’s getting to the point where we want to get a place to ourselves, where we can spend more time alone together. I also think this is going to help us understand what it is to be an adult slightly more, and help us understand our priorities.

Moving on, a small goal I need to set myself for January, after taking a Snome to the face (pretty hard), is to get my glasses fixed – or get new glasses, whatever is easiest for my opticians.

Finally, we reach the last stretch of goals. These are more related to self-care, and are things that just generally make me feel good about myself. This involves maybe picking up a new hobby, although I’m not too sure what this new hobby would be (possibly it would be related to music – I kind of want to learn the guitar, I’m just not sure I’m going to have the patience for it).

This self-care also involves keeping up with my bullet-journal, and just journaling in general. Not only does journaling make me feel really motivated to do well in life, it also helps me feel organised and that for once I have part of my life under control. Journaling also makes me really happy, and just sitting down to have a break and create really helps me unwind.

There you have it! These are my goals for 2020, long term and short term. I think there’s a little bit of everything, to be honest, and I hope that I can achieve a good chunk of them. I hope you all enjoyed this blog, and I hope all of you have a good new year and an amazing 2020! See you all in my next blog.
